Golden Retriever Rescue - Our Story
Sometimes
Golden Retrievers are mistreated, unloved, cast aside, or not looked after
properly. Golden Retriever Rescue Inc is a registered animal welfare charity
(CFN 20759), who is committed to the care, welfare, rescue and re-homing of
abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted Golden Retrievers. Welcome to our website,
we look forward to hearing from you.
How Golden Retriever Rescue was formed:
Wendy Donohue and Trisha Jarvis met some years ago at their local dog training club through a mutual adoration of Golden Retrievers. While walking their Goldies one day, they met RSPCA Inspector Alison Wren, who had rescued and subsequently adopted a Golden Retriever (Hailey) from an abusive and neglectful situation. While saddened and appalled to hear what Hailey had been through, they were cheered to see how happy and well-adjusted she was in her new home. Wendy uttered some throwaway words to the Inspector “if you ever hear of another Goldie needing a home, give us a call…” not realising she would be changing lives forever!
Golden Retrievers in need started coming to Wendy and Trisha’s notice soon after from pounds, shelters, “free to good home” advertisements and by word of mouth with reasons given for their unfortunate situations ranging from ignorance, greed, stupidity, neglect and unfortunately, cruelty. This is how Golden Retriever Rescue (GRR) was formed.
Finding Forever Homes:
Situated in Sydney and supported by a team of dedicated
foster families and friends, Trisha and Wendy welcome, rehabilitate and re-home their chosen and much loved breed of dog, Golden Retrievers.
For over seven years Golden Retriever Rescue (GRR) has been placing Goldies into not only the best homes, but the home and family which suits
the needs and temperament of each individual dog. When GRR place a Goldie into a home it is forever.
Rescuing Golden Retrievers Since 2002:
In 2002 Trisha and Wendy rehomed Dexter, their first Golden Retriever rescue who sadly went to Rainbow Bridge in 2009. Each year the number of rescues rises at an alarming rate and what once was a minor interruption in their lives has grown into a lifestyle. In 2008 GRR rehomed 97 Golden Retrievers and 2009 looks well on its way to topping that number. Read more about our work here…
Riley Fostered By Vet Katrina Warren
Riley is
now in foster care with Dr Katrina Warren, sharing her home with her young daughter and Mr Fox, a cat with a reputation for being
the centre of attention. His care is ongoing and he is receiving a ton of love, going for walks each day, eating nutritious meals
and being part of a family. Riley will need time for the wounds to heal, time to put on weight, to grow a luxurious coat and
eventually be ready to take his place as a much loved member of a family.
**UPDATE** Dr Katrina Warren admits that she is a foster failure and is now the proud owner of Riley! Updates on Riley are available
on Facebook via Toby The Wonderdog’s page. You can read Riley's full story here.

GRR is proud to announce that Kerri-Anne
Kennerley has offered to be a patron of GRR. Kerri-Anne is a true dog lover and is passionate about Golden Retrievers. Her previous dogs
Harvey, Angus and Bentley were often seen on her TV show. GRR is delighted that Kerri-Anne is supporting the work being done to stop puppy
mills and reduce the number of unwanted Golden Retrievers. Kerri-Anne works tirelessly for a number of charities, so GRR is honoured that
Kerri-Anne has agreed to having her name associated with our charity.
