Adopting a Golden Retriever from GRR
GRR rehomes Goldies in NSW, ACT and Victoria. GRR does NOT rehome dogs in other States as GRR is a small organisation run by volunteers
and the logistics to proceed with the GRR process for adoption in other States and Territories is beyond our capacity.
GRR Adoption requirements:
- The home has an outdoor area enclosed with securely constructed fences and gates, usually with a minimum height
of 1.5m, unless the dog being adopted is elderly or infirm.
- GRR rarely places dogs in homes with a small yard (less than the size of a double car garage) unless the dog
is old. GRR does not place dogs in apartment blocks.
- The home has covered structural shelter in the yard - such as a covered verandah or entertainment area or an
open garage. We do not consider a kennel or doghouse provides adequate shelter.
- GRR does not generally place dogs in any home with children under the age of 12 years old due to the risk that
dogs with an unknown history could harm young children.
- The person/s who will be named as the new owner/s on the dog’s adoption papers must complete this adoption
questionnaire. GRR does not accept applications completed on behalf of another person even if they are family members.
If you know somebody who wants to adopt a golden retriever please ask them to complete this questionnaire.
GRR receives over 1000 adoption applications each year and is run by unpaid volunteers. Therefore applicants who do not meet the
above adoption requirements may not receive a reply from GRR. Prospective adoption homes will usually be inspected by a GRR
representative before we agree to place a dog in the home. Before the property inspection takes place you will be required to show
a Rates Notice for your residence or alternatively an agreement on letterhead from your Landlord or Real Estate Agency advising
that dogs are permitted on the property and inside the home. If a GRR representative is unable to attend a property due to distance
or availability, you will be required to provide photographs of all areas of your home where the dog will frequent, including
fencing and bedding areas.
- The first stage in GRR’s adoption process is for an applicant to complete the
adoption questionnaire.
- Once the questionnaire is completed suitable applicants will be placed on GRR’s waiting list.
